More ultrasound pics, Kierin and Conner stories!
Here they are 1/27/09 at 21 weeks 4 days :)
This is Baby A (boy) head to the left looking at you.
This is Baby A (boy) showing you he is still all boy :) Look in the circle; it's obvious he's on team blue :)

This is Baby B (girl). She is looking at you. Her face is on the left; forehead is to the right and chin to the left. The round thing to the right of her head is Baby A's head :) They are snuggled up so close and are both head down (YAYYYYYY! Stay that way so we might not have to have a c-section!!!)

Baby B (girl) showing us she is still a girl. Girl parts are in the circle and look like 3 little white lines. The pudgy thing sticking out above the circle is her cute little leg :)

Today we had another appt with the perinatologist and had our monthly ultrasound. They are doing very well and the perinatologist said they had an excellent rate of growth.
Baby A (boy)- heart rate in the 150's and weighed 17 oz (or 1 pound 1 oz).
Baby B (girl)- heart rate in the 140's and weighed 16 oz (or 1 pound).
Baby B (girl)- heart rate in the 140's and weighed 16 oz (or 1 pound).
They were moving all around and kicking and hitting each other as usual. This time, our girl was awake more and was waving at us and looking straight at the transducer. As a result we got to see several shots of her looking straight on. Her face shape seems different than our boy's, so I don't think they will look that much alike. I think she looks like me and he looks like Marvin, but maybe I am just imagining it. We are still hard at work trying to come up with a name for our boy and are trying to decide on a couple for our girl. It's hard not having names for them yet and having to just call them "boy" and "girl", but hopefully in the next week or two we will come to some consensus. I go back in 4 weeks for another ultrasound at the peri :)
Kierin- Doing wonderful; so smart as always. He is Ms. Brandie's big helper at school and just eats up the positive attention he gets from that. He likes to help her clean up the room and loves that she lets him be the line leader and gives him stickers for it. He is big time into scooby doo right now and loves to tell his own stories in his books when he "reads" them. The funniest thing he has said lately was when Marvin let him crack open the fortune cookie he got with his chinese food and told Kierin to read the fortune. This is what Kierin said "it says 'Dear Kierin, you will have lots of birthday parties and presents just for me at Chuck E Cheese.' " Hahaha...we both laugh so much at him every day. He is just at a funny age. When he grows up he wants to be a professional athlete or an astronaut. He also told me that when the doctor takes the babies out of my belly that it is going to break my belly, but that the doctor will fix it and make it all better and then he said "and Kierin will kiss it too and it will be better". Hahaha..he is such a sweetie. Another funny on him- when I button his pants in the morning, sometimes he giggles at me and says "suck it in, pal"....meaning he needs to suck in his own belly to help me out. :)
Conner- Whew...that boy is a mess. He is a sweet mess though. He currently LOVES sesame street, spongebob and scooby doo (all begin with 'S'; how weird!). We took him to a mexican restaurant last night and he kept trying to eat the hot salsa on his chips. I told him "Con, it's hot!!" He kept trying anyway. Finally the waiter came back and we were able to get some mild salsa. Once he got it, he kept the whole bowl right in front of him and would dip his chip, suck off the salsa and dip it again. He loves anything with tomatoes on it or in it. He also likes cucumbers, olives and green beans which while not unheard of, is a little less common and completely contrasted with Kierin's vegetable repertoire of corn and snow peas. He is not much on meat at all; it is a struggle to get him to eat it once a day. Whereas Kierin will eat chicken any time of day; Conner really has to be in the mood to eat it or he will outright refuse. Today at school he was carrying around a baby doll and his teacher told him to hug the baby like he was going to hug the new babies and he said "NO!" and threw the doll down! I know he is going to be the more jealous one of the bunch; I just hope we can make it through. He is such a mama's boy! He was so funny this morning. Marvin was dressing him as I was getting my makeup on and I hear his little feet running to our room and him crying. I look down and he is standing there in just his jeans and socks. I said "where is your shirt, Con?" He said "No, shirt Dad!" I was confused and finally Marvin came in with one of Conner's hoodies that I know he won't wear (I think because his big head got somewhat stuck in it once that he has since hated it). Marvin said he was refusing to put on the shirt. I told him to just get him another one because he didn't like that shirt...Marvin gave me a look and said that he was just being difficult and didn't want any shirt. I sat Conner on the bed with me and when Marvin got back, I went to put his shirt on and he bent his head forward and helped me. I asked him "Do you like this shirt better?" He started smiling his million dollar smile and said "Yeah!" haha. Just like that, he was fine again. Little booger head...he looks so much like Marvin sometimes.
Guess I'd better run. I keep meaning to post a belly pic and keep forgetting. Hold me to it for tomorrow; I'm too tired to get it from the camera :) Suffice it to say...my belly is big and big.
Off to sleep I go.

17 weeks 4 days and IT'S A..................
As Promised, here are the pics of the little ones: I have labeled them so you have better ideas of what's what :) I realized after I posted them all on here (which is why these are late!!) that they are small on here and you can't read the labels. If you would like to see them larger and read the labels...click here:

All was well with the twins today! Twin A (boy) was 8oz and Twin B (girl) was 7 oz. They have big heads already...they measured 18 weeks 2 days. Haha...big head= big brain= smart, right? :) Boy's heart rate was 158 (from doing somersaults, no doubt) and Girls's heart rate was 140. The old wive's tale about girls having higher heart rates wasn't true for me :) Kierin and Conner were the same way and also always had higher heart rates. They have passed all genetic testing so far and just have one more screening blood test for spina bifida which was done today. No markers were found for any problems at this point, so it was all good news! I have to tell you what happened. I was so ready to hear that my little baby A was a girl...that when she said Boy...I really was confused! I couldn't believe it for a second. Then I had to wait 15 or 20 agonizing minutes while she did all of the measurements on baby B (the girl) to find out if it was as I thought a Boy. Just as she was about to look and tell us, the Perinatologist comes in and takes her out of the room to talk to her about another patient!! My hands were all cramped and sweaty from gripping the exam table and waiting on her to hurry back! When she finally came back in what seemed like 3 eternities, she was silent for the longest time. I kept looking for a little "wee wee" but didn't see one. I kept thinking oh man...she's not going to be able to tell. The finally out of the blue...shocking us both...she says "I think Baby B is a little girl!!" I told her "Check again...we don't make girls and I want to be sure!" She didn't say anything and I was afraid I offended her, but she looked again and showed me a couple more shots of the girl parts. I was elated. These are our last babies and I just really wanted to end with a bang and have a girl in there somewhere :) Our boy was like a cute little monkey. He really would not stay still! He kept jumping and flipping and kicking his sister. Finally she got tired of it and they had an all out brawl with arms and legs flailing!!!!! It was an awesome experience. I called Kierin and Conner (home with my grandparents) and told Kierin the news to tell everyone. He was so excited that he was getting what he wanted and what he predicted all along. When we got home and showed them the pictures (Kierin was asking to see them as soon as we walked in), Conner just pointed at them and said "babies!". That's the extent of his acknowledgement of them right now.
In other news...Conner can count!!! He counts to 6!! I was shocked when I was reading to him the other night and said "let's count these balls in the picture, Con!" I said "1...." he said "2...3...5...6". He isn't a fan of 4 for some reason, but we're working on it! Here's a cute Con factoid...he loves pants with pockets! He just giggles every time he wears a pair his auntie and uncle from Canada got for him that have nice big pockets he can get both hands into.
Kierin starts soccer again this spring and is super excited about it. He loves soccer and loves Coach Ray, so we are signing him up for the next level class with Coach Ray by his request. His birthday is in 2 weeks and he had a hard time choosing between a soccer theme party and a transformers theme. In the end, Transformers won out and will be at Chuck E Cheese, also by his request. I swore I would never have another party there, but oh what you will do for your kids!
I am so excited I could go on and on, but I won't keep you any longer....
Night!

14 weeks and counting :)
Hello All!
We're all doing well here. Twins are growing and kicking (I feel them sometimes...usually when I use the doppler or when I am laying on baby B's side trying to sleep!). I am big-time showing now and feeling pretty good, but tired sometimes. I went to my OB last thursday and he did another ultrasound to check heart rates (they move around alot and are hard to find with doppler). Both were doing really well...hearts beating away and growing. They were laying right next to each other and hitting/kicking at each other!! It was funny to see them interacting already. Being that the ultrasound tech had already left for the day, the OB had to do the ultrasound himself and he admits to being totally an amateur at the advanced functions (like printing pictures!). He did, however, give it a go and try to print a pic of each for me. They're blurry, but you can see them below. I don't know which is which because he didn't label or tell me. I think the top is B and bottom is A. We just watched them kicking and playing for a few minutes :) My first gestational diabetes test came back...as expected....on the normal/low side. Mine are always like that, but that is a good thing because when it is high is when they have a problem. All of the bloodwork was good and I had only gained 1.3 pounds in all 14 weeks. I am in the second trimester now, so all is looking up.
Kierin update- My biggest baby got promoted!!! They moved him the last week to the 4 year class because he is doing so well and they felt he needed a challenge. I told you he was a smart cookie :) He loves his new class and is doing awesome. He told me the other night..."Mom, c'mere!" I said "What is it?" He said "Come look at my eye...it's freaking me out". Hahaha....he is such my little clone. I looked at his eye and he informed me his eye was shaking. Basically, he and I figured out that his eye was twitching and he had never experienced that before. Once I assured him it didn't mean his eye would fall out or some similar fate, he was fine. An update on his sleep apnea- it is better since going on Zyrtec and Nasonex at bedtime. We are holding off on further treatment right now since this seems to be working. He is such a big boy...he takes his Zyrtec pill every night with a cup of water without fussing. We tried sticking it in cheese, yogurt, apple sauce..you name it and he would cry. Finally I put the pill on his tongue and gave him water to drink and he swallowed it right down. He is asking Santa for a Train Table and train set and Leapster handheld Game system. Santa is surprising him (Shhhh! Don't tell!) with a Ben 10 Omnitrix and a transformer named Prowl.
Conner Update- He is talking more every day! He loves to point at Santa and say "Santa" and then "Ho ho" :) He now is attached to a blanket that he wants to take EVERYWHERE with him. I had to sneak it away last night to wash it because he had gotten it dirty and he was very angry at bedtime last night. He is into watching Ben 10 now with Kierin and still loves Spongebob. We took him to the ENT recently and scheduled his surgery for Dec. 26...he will have a 2nd set of tubes put in his ears as well as his adenoids removed. He keeps fluid in his ears all the time without tubes, so the ENT said that the next step would be to remove the adenoids to see if they were the issue. He said the majority of the time they were. He is also getting a different type of tube put in his ears this time in hopes that they will stay in longer than 8 months like the last ones. He is currently going through a growth spurt. He weighs 30.5 lbs and his 18 mo pants are now geting a little short! He is now wearing 24 mo. pants, but they are still big in the waist! As far as his wish list for Santa....Train table with train set, a handheld game system (similar in size and shape to Kierin's, but for toddlers) and a fire truck theme small ball pit (This is a surprise to him...so Shhh!). Fun!

Kierin and Conner- Train table and train set; this is pretty much all they talk about.

Conner- Toddler form of handheld game system...similar to what Kierin is asking for. This was added to Con's list to avoid Conner from fighting with Kierin over the Leapster. I like to play with it too. You can write on the orange pad and it displays what you write on the screen...cool!

12 week Nuchal Screening Today!
Hello Friends and Family!
The Hernandez Clan had a great doctor visit today and thought we'd email you to let you know. We had our first visit with the maternal-fetal specialist (doctor who specializes in high risk pregnancies). We had the 12 week nuchal scan which can detect abnormalities in the thickness of the skin fold at the nape of the neck which correspond to Trisomy 21 or Down's Syndrome. Both twins looked "perfect" and passed with flying colors! Of course we have 2 more parts to the screen, but so far so good! Their heart rates were 170 and 176, which is still elevated higher than Kierin and Conner's ever were...so I am hoping for at least one girl out of the deal!!! They measured right on target for their age...well one of them measured 11 weeks 4 days which is right on target and the other measured 11 weeks 6 days which is 2 days bigger. They look distinct in the scan...A is longer and thinner...I think she is my girl :) Twin B is shorter and chubby looking...he looks like a bouncing boy. Of course I am totally guessing, but Kierin is reinforcing my guesses. He is still adamant that he is getting a brother and a sister. I think he is the most accurate because as the old saying goes children are closer to God and heaven than adults and know some of the secrets they left there ;) We go back December 30th for the other 2 parts of the birth defects screen and the anatomical scan. We will find out their genders (babies willing and cooperating) on that same date. Say a prayer for us! Attached are the following pics: Twin A by itself, Twin B by itself and one of them together. They are getting bigger so it is harder to get them in the same shot at the same time showing full body length.
Conner- Doing well, but has an ear infection now. He goes for his 2nd set of tubes consult next week. When he gets the tubes he should be feeling alot better. He made the absolute cutest school pics (which is a change because he normally doesn't smile too well for pics at school!). Those are forthcoming in another email if I get a chance tomorrow. He is talking and repeating lots of words; he is really starting to pick up things at a fast pace. He is more like Marvin though and quiet compared to Kierin and I :) He is SUCH a Mama's boy right now...I barely get a break! Thank goodness he is so cute and I don't mind carrying him around for now :)
Kierin- Also doing well and so smart it blows our minds somedays. OK...I know every parent says that, but he just surprises us every day. Right now he is learning a few words in his books and is trying to "read". He also is really into superheroes and imaginary play. We hear him in the baby monitor making up stories and scenarios while he is going to sleep. He is starting to really come out of his shell and dance and sing. He also has been talking about God lately which I think is cute. He told me we need to go to church (we do need to go) and that God made the people and the animals and our eyes. I don't know why he chose eyes in that group, but he was so serious about it! Along with that he told us that he likes to read the Bible because it is God's favorite book. Hahaha. I guess he does pay attention to us more than we know!
He and Conner are the light of our lives, but you knew that already, didn't you?!
Take care and sorry it's a novel as usual!
